Fire Department to Welcome New Ladder Truck- Sept. 26

The Town of Mount Carmel Fire Department will host a Push-In Ceremony on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the fire station located at 213 Hammond Avenue. Residents and community members are invited to attend this special event and take part in a meaningful fire service tradition.

The Push-In Ceremony dates back to the 1800s, when firefighters returning from a call would unhitch their horses and push their fire wagons back into the station. Today, fire departments across the country continue this custom to welcome new fire apparatus into service.

Mount Carmel’s ceremony will mark the arrival of a ladder truck purchased from the West Fargo, ND, Fire Department. Funding for the purchase was provided through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

“This is more than just a ceremony—it’s a moment of pride for our firefighters, our Town, and our residents,” said Mitch Walker, Fire Chief. “Thanks to the support of the CDBG program, we now have the tools we need to better protect our community.”

Mayor John Gibson added, “This ladder truck strengthens our fire department’s ability to respond to emergencies and reflects our commitment to keeping Mount Carmel safe and prepared for the future.”

Community members are encouraged to attend, meet local firefighters, and celebrate this exciting milestone with the department.
