Finance Clerk
The Town of Mount Carmel is currently accepting applications for Finance Clerk.
The Finance Clerk performs responsible administrative and accounting work in support of the Town's Finance Department. This position serves as the primary administrator for the Town's payroll and accounts payable functions The Finance Clerk is responsible for processing accounts payable, administering payroll, maintaining financial records, issuing purchase orders, assisting with account reconciliations, and providing exceptional customer service to Town departments, vendors, and employees.
The Finance Clerk also assists with general administrative support functions as assigned, helping fulfill the Town's commitment to efficient, responsive public service. The position reports to the Town Recorder/Finance Director.
Essential Job Functions:
- Process payroll, including earnings, deductions, direct deposits, leave balances, and tax withholdings
- Process accounts payable, vendor invoices, and check runs
- Issue purchase orders and verify budget availability
- Assist with bank reconciliations, financial records, and month-end/year-end accounting
- Support the Town's annual financial audit
- Process customer payments and prepare bank deposits
- Provide exceptional customer service to employees, vendors, departments, and citizens
- Cross-train with other departments to provide operational continuity
- Receive and process payments for services, fees, fines, permits, court, and taxes due.
- Assists with Municipal Court, serving as assistant Court Clerk.
Graduation from high school or equivalent is required. An associate's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred. A bachelor's degree is desirable.
Preferred candidates will possess:
- Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience in payroll, accountspayable, bookkeeping, accounting, or municipal finance.
- Experience processing payroll and accounts payable.
- Experience with governmental accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Tennessee Municipal Court Clerk Certification (MCC) (or ability to obtain)
This position is classified as Grade N (minimum $45,241.04 or $21.75/hour) on the Town's pay plan.
